YEAR END CELEBRATION 12/17/2011

On DECEMBER 17 at 5PM we will be having our YEAR END CELEBRATION at the Hālau in Kapolei at the Prince Kūhiō Community Center.

POT LUCK-Bring a Main Dish to feed at least 10 people and a Dessert OR Pupu. Hālau will be providing RICE, DRINKS, and PAPER GOODS!

We are also doing an Optional GRAB BAG like last year. bring a gift from the heart that the value is no more than $20. You bring a gift, you take home a gift.

ANNOUNCEMENTS and SIGN UPS are being distributed at the Hālau.

WORLD INVITATIONAL HULA FESTIVAL-11/10-12/2011

This year haumāna from both Hawaiʻi and Japan will be participating in the 20th World Invitational Hula Festival-E Hoʻi Mai I Ka Piko Hula being held at the Neal S. Blaisdell Concert Hall due to APEC.

From November 10-12, the Japan haumāna will be in the International Category participating in GROUP WAHINE ʻAuana and Kahiko as well as Wahine Solo ʻAuana and Kahiko represented by Kākoʻo Emi Murata.

The Hawaiʻi haumāna will be in the Hawaiʻi Category participating in GROUP WAHINE-Kahiko and ʻAuana, as well as Wahine Solo Kahiko and ʻAuana being represented by Kākoʻo Annie Harada-Kaku. The KANE will also participate in GROUP KAHIKO and COMBINATION KAHIKO and ʻAUANA with the wahine.

HUAKAʻI IĀPANA 2011-10/28-11/6/11

Carrying on with the theme from 2 years ago E OLA MAU A MAU ʻO TULIPA haumāna from Hawaiʻi with our musicians The Pearl’s Of the Pacific and Alakaiʻi Mailani from Virginia and Alakaiʻi Tulipa from California will be travelling to help celebrate the 5th Anniversary of our Japan’s Branch in Tokyo. They will also be performing in Hanno for Hālau ʻO Momilani’s 12th Anniversary Hōʻike and in Hachioji for ʻĀnuenue Hula and Polynesian Hālau 5th Anniversary Hōʻike.

On October 28, 2011 13 Dancers, 4 Musicians, and 7 `Ohana Support will head to Japan. First stop Hanno for their first SOLD OUT SHOW on October 30. they then move to Tokyo and their 2nd show, the BIGGEST SHOW at the TOKYO DOME CITY HALL 2,400 SEATS SOLD OUT for their second show. Then they head to Hachioji for their third and final SOLD OUT SHOW.

If you have experience and you are a fast learner, you may be allowed to join Papa Tulipa (our Hōʻike or travelling/competition class) if you take a month or two of our Beginners Hula. Our Papa Tulipa (Hōʻike) classes meet on:

Monday: 6-8PM
Wednesday: 6:15-8:15PM &
Saturdays: 12:15-2:15PM

We have a Papa Kamaliʻi (Young kids 5-10 years Old) held in Mililani at the Christ Lutheran Church on Saturdays from 9-10AM.

2nd Bingo Fundraiser

Iā ʻOe E Ka Lā Hula Festival and Competition

Hawaiʻʻi and Japan members will be participating in the 30th Annual Iā ʻOe E Ka Lā Hula Festival and Competition on November 6 & 7. They will be participating in the Kaikamahine, Wahine, Gracious Ladies, and Kupuna Divisions. The hālau in Hawaiʻi will be closed from the 3rd through the 8th.

World Invitational Hula Festival

Hawaiʻi Hōʻike Members will be participating in the 19th Annual World Invitational Hula Festival. They are competing in the Wahine division on November 12 & 13. Hawaiʻi hālau will be closed from the 11th through the 14th.

We will be having a Pot Luck and Grab Bag Year End Celebration at the hālau for all hālau members and their families. The haumāna will also be sharing some of their numbers that they learned in class and Hōʻike members will also share some of their dances, as well.
